How to choose a good team name
- Keep it short — two or three words are easy to remember, shout and fit on a shirt or a scoreboard.
- Say it out loud. A name that sounds good when the quizmaster or commentator reads it beats one that only works on paper.
- Make it fit the group: a name that hints at your sport, office, hobby or an in-joke feels like yours.
- Keep it friendly. Avoid names that mock other teams, people or groups — they tend to get vetoed or banned by organisers.
- Check that another team in your league or quiz doesn’t already use it.
Picking a name as a group
- Generate 20–30 names and let everyone shortlist a few favourites.
- Cut the list down to three or four and take a quick vote.
- Can’t agree? Use the Random Name Picker to choose one of the finalists.
Ideas by type of team
| Team | What works |
|---|---|
| Sports team | Strong, energetic words; animals, weather and speed (“The Thunder Hawks”). |
| Pub quiz | Puns and knowing jokes; quiz teams can be sillier than sports teams. |
| Office or project | Light-hearted but safe for a company email or slide. |
| Gaming squad | Short and easy to type into a clan tag or lobby name. |
