Tip Calculator
Work out the tip, the total and how much each person pays when splitting a bill.
About this tool
Enter the bill, the tip percentage and how many people are sharing. The calculator shows the tip, the total and each person’s share — and can round every share up to a whole amount so nobody needs small change. Works in any currency.
Frequently asked questions
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage and divide by 100. A 15% tip on a 50.00 bill is 50 × 0.15 = 7.50, so the total is 57.50.
Add the tip to the bill, then divide the total by the number of people. 57.50 shared by 2 people is 28.75 each.
Each share is rounded up to the next whole amount and the extra goes to the tip. 28.75 each becomes 29.00 each, so 2 people pay 58.00 — a tip of 8.00, or 16% of the bill.
Move the decimal point one place left for 10% (50.00 → 5.00), add half of that for 15% (5.00 + 2.50 = 7.50) and double it for 20% (10.00).
