About this tool

Choose a rectangle, circle or triangle, pick the unit you measured in (feet, inches, yards, metres or centimetres) and enter the measurements. The calculator gives the area in ft², m² and yd², multiplies it for several identical rooms, and estimates the cost from a price per square foot, metre or yard.

Frequently asked questions

For a rectangular room, multiply the length by the width in feet. A 12 × 10 ft room is 120 ft². For an L-shaped room, split it into rectangles and add them together.

Multiply square feet by 0.0929 (one square foot is exactly 0.09290304 m²). 120 ft² is 11.15 m². To go the other way, multiply square metres by 10.764.

A circle's area is π × diameter² ÷ 4, so a 10 ft circle is about 78.54 ft². A triangle's area is base × height ÷ 2, so a triangle 4 m across and 3 m high is 6 m².

Nine, because a yard is 3 ft and 3 × 3 = 9. Carpet is often priced per square yard in the US, so a 120 ft² room is 13.33 yd².
