Wallpaper Calculator

Find how many rolls of wallpaper you need, including pattern repeat.

Add up the width of all walls, including doors and windows.

On the label. Use 0 for plain or random-match paper.

Measure the full width of the walls including doors and windows — the offcuts rarely fit elsewhere. Buy all rolls from the same batch number and keep one spare.

About this tool

Enter the total width of the walls, the wall height and your roll size. The calculator works out how many full-height strips each roll gives — allowing for pattern repeat and trimming — and how many rolls to buy.

Frequently asked questions

Work out how many full-height strips fit on one roll, how many strips cover the walls, then divide. A room with 12 m of wall at 2.5 m high needs 23 strips; a standard 10.05 m roll gives 3 strips, so you need 8 rolls.

It is the vertical distance before the pattern repeats itself, printed on the label (e.g. 53 cm or 21 in). Each strip must be cut longer to line up the pattern, so a large repeat means fewer strips per roll.

In Europe a standard roll is 0.53 m wide and 10.05 m long (about 5.3 m²). In the US, wallpaper is usually sold in double rolls of about 20.5 in × 33 ft (56 ft²).

Yes. Buy at least one spare from the same batch number — rolls from different batches can differ slightly in colour, and you will want a spare for repairs.
