Frequently asked questions

A HEX code writes a colour as # plus three pairs of hexadecimal digits for red, green and blue, each from 00 to FF (0–255). #FF0000 is pure red and #FFFFFF is white.

With 256 levels for each of red, green and blue there are 256³ = 16,777,216 different 24-bit colours.

RGB mixes red, green and blue light (0–255 each). HSL describes the same colour as hue (0–360° around the colour wheel), saturation and lightness (0–100%), which is easier to adjust by hand.

Pastel mode picks a random hue with high saturation (60–90%) and high lightness (80–90%) in HSL, then converts it to RGB and HEX. Dark and vivid modes use their own lightness and saturation ranges.
