Inflation Calculator

See what something will cost in the future at a given inflation rate, and what your money will be worth.

Negative for deflation.

Uses one constant average rate. Real inflation varies from year to year and between goods, so treat the result as an estimate.

About this tool

Enter an amount, an average annual inflation rate and a number of years. The calculator shows the future cost of the same goods and what that amount will be worth in today’s money, plus the total price rise. Works in any currency.

Frequently asked questions

Multiply today’s price by (1 + inflation rate) raised to the number of years. Something costing 100 today costs 100 × 1.03^10 = 134.39 after 10 years of 3% inflation.

It is what a fixed amount of money will buy compared with today. At 3% inflation, 100 in 10 years buys only what 100 ÷ 1.03^10 = 74.41 buys today.

Inflation compounds: each year’s rise applies to already higher prices. Ten years at 3% is a 34.4% rise, not 30%.

No. It uses one constant average rate that you choose, which is useful for planning. Actual inflation varies each year and differs between goods, so check your national statistics office for historical figures.
