Cat Age Calculator
Convert your cat's age to human years and see which life stage it's in.
Cat-to-human age conversions are estimates. Indoor cats often live longer than outdoor cats — ask your vet about care at each life stage.
About this tool
Enter your cat's age to see roughly how old it is in human years and which life stage it is in — kitten, young adult, mature adult or senior — based on the feline life stage guidelines vets use.
Frequently asked questions
A one-year-old cat is roughly like a 15-year-old human and a two-year-old like a 24-year-old. After that, each cat year adds about 4 human years, so a 10-year-old cat is about 56.
Under the 2021 AAHA/AAFP feline life stage guidelines, cats are seniors from about 10 years of age. Mature adults are 7–10, young adults 1–6, and kittens under 1.
Many indoor cats live 13–17 years, and some reach their twenties. Outdoor cats tend to have shorter lives because of traffic, disease and fights.
Roughly, yes — cats vary far less in size than dogs. Genetics, weight, diet and indoor or outdoor life still make a difference.
